Design Wall Monday - Feb 28th

THE TOP IS DONE!!!  After making a lot of cutting mistakes and having to figure out how to fix it, especially since I did not have a whole lot of extra material recut everything correctly; I had to piece half of the cream blocks and in doing so, I was able to change the cream blocks around to make it look like it was planned that way. I am pretty happy with the results, especially after my bad foo-pah. What do you think?
The pattern called for a thin red border, but it didn't blend very well to me, so I changed it to the yellow.

I like the yellow border better. (Hubby's trying to hold it up without showing himself or his fingers - Don't you just love these camera shy men?)

The next pattern on my Design Wall is called Starry Starry Night. I got the pattern off the internet many years ago, so I cannot remember who designed it or where I found it.
This is a fun pattern and have found that I like doing flying geese blocks. Maybe I'll attempt an actual flying geese quilt. That will have to be a future project.

For more great projects and ideas visit Judy's Design Wall.

Also tell me how I did - I love compliments!

Design Wall Monday - Feb 21st

I am still working on the same blocks as the last couple weeks.

I have 13 blocks done and need seven more. With today being Presidents Day and I have the day off work, I plan on working on them and getting this design done. Then I can focus on the rest of the quilt blocks to put it together. I will repost later tonight what it looks like.

Check out and see what others are doing at PatchworkTimes.

Something Saturday

This past week seemed to fly by, but that is a good thing, since this is a long weekend and I am going to enjoy it to its fullest.
Last night my husband took me on a long needed date. We went to the RV show to dream. Just recently my darling hubby (DH) had his heart set on a 5th Wheel RV with a toy hauler; of course that also means needed to get a large, a very large truck to pull this monstrosity. As we were looking around at his dream toy, we ran into my brother and his wife. It was nice to see them since it has been a long time that we got together. We walked around together and started to look and other trailers. My brother and sister-in-law have one of those pop-up camper trailers with soft sides; they were interested in the same thing but with hard sides. Well as DH started to look at these type of trailers he started to have a change of heart, especially since he saw a hard side pop-up trailer with a toy hauler section in the front. This trailer is A LOT less expensive, plus the truck to pull it would also be A LOT less expensive. Now the dream has changed and is down into the range that is more accessible to us.

Design Wall

I am happy to say that I was able to work on a PhD (project half done) this past week. All I need to do is get seven more blocks done, cut the white blocks and the side triangle blocks, piece it together and put on a border and this top will be ready and waiting for a bottom.
As you can see I really don't have a 'Design Wall' it is more like a design floor, but it works.

This is a better view even if it cuts off the corners.

Something Saturday

I have been reading all the wonderful blogs that I follow and a few more that I need to put on my follow list, and I thought I need to start saying more on here, but what?
So today I am starting SOMETHING SATURDAY, where something will be posted every Saturday, even it is just rambling.
I have been participating in 'Design Wall Monday' hosted by Judy L at http://www.patchworktimes.com/. Last Monday I am sad to say that I did nothing to improve or increase my design wall/project; so today I will be working hard at getting something done to show some accomplishments.
Along with working on my quilt project, I also need to make valentines cookies and prepare my Sunday School lesson. Better get working.
Join in and post with me - do you have Something to say today?

CHD Awareness Week

This past week my wonderful sister has been enlightening us about CHD (Congenital Heart Defect), since it is CHD Awareness Week. The information below was copied from her blog in which she spent the entire week educating everyone about it. To read her daily blogs click here. It is best to start on Day 1, also read about brave Abby along with a couple famous people that was born with CHD.

Here is a very small tidbit that Kris talked about.
  • This is a disease that affects newborns - 1 in every 100 babies are born with CHD
  • Congenital heart defects are problems with the heart's structure that are present at birth. These defects can involve - The interior walls of the heart; The valves inside the heart; and/or the arteries and veins that carry blood into the heart or out to the body.
  • Congenital heart defects change the normal flow of blood through the heart.
  • Lots of heart defects are not detected in prenatal ultrasounds or on physical examination after birth. Since they are the number 1 birth defect, parents should know the signs of heart defects which include rapid breathing, difficulty feeding (tiring out), blueness of lips and fingers and toes, failure to thrive, fatigue difficulty with physical exertion, and chest pains (in older children).
  • If you know of anyone who is pregnant or trying to get pregnant, talk to them about CHD and definitely tell them about the Pulse-Ox test. They have to ask for this, it is not a test that is given unless asked for.
Thanks Kris for helping us try to understand more about this defect.

Design Wall Monday - Feb. 7th

Unfortunately I was not able to get into the sewing room this past week, with trying to stay on top of a full time job, cooking, cleaning, taking care of the boys - hubby, kid, and foster dogs (I can call them foster dogs because they are not mine, I am watching my parents dogs while they are out of the country - 5 more months and counting). Now that I have meandered off the subject...

My quilt is slowly coming along and hopefully I will have more success this week.

Project Wall

In the past, well since I moved back to Utah, I haven't really set up the sewing room and worked on quilt projects. I don't really consider myself a great quilter, or even an avid quilter, more like a part-time passive quilter. Lately I have been quietly following a blogger that does a lot of quilts and crafts. Judy the editor of Patchwork Times is giving me the enthusiasm to work on my PhD, no I am not talking about schooling, I am very much done with school, I am talking about 'Projects Half Done' and I have many of them as you can tell by my previous blog.
Since that original blog listing 7 quilts that needs to be finished, I have found more projects that I have started and that needs attention as well. This is a paper piecing quilt project that I have been dabbling with; I have a few blocks done and I plan on making more for a queen size quilt for our bed.
As far as my current project I am working on a quilt called Georgetown Wedding Blues. I found the pattern in a 2006 Quilting Block & Pattern-a-Day Calendar by Debby Kratovil. This what I have so far:
Here are some pieces sewn into strips, waiting to be sewn together to make a block.
Here are a few blocks already made.

I have successfully finished the top and backing for Stairway to Cat Heaven. I can't remember where I found the pattern, I do know it was online, somewhere.

This is the front.

And the back is made up of the leftover kitty prints.

Since I am at this time a hand quilter, the actual quilting will take a long time. A couple years ago I purchased a Grace Hand Quilting Frame, and I am a bit nervous to pull it out, put it together, and figure out how to use it. But I need to get working on them so I can give them to the people I originally planned them for.
